Southshore on Lake Las Vegas--Henderson, NV
-Ranked the 9th best course in Nevada (Golf Digest)
-29th best residential course (Golfweek)
Southshore is a truly beautiful golf course. If it wasn't for the majesty of Cascata, it would be the most beautiful
course I've ever played. It is well maintained with brilliant greens contrasted by the browns of the desert and
mountains.
The course is designed by Jack Nicklaus and it offers challenges in many forms…elevation changes, bunkering,
lakes, etc. But the mind-blower on the course is the back-to-back gems on the back nine; holes 16 and 17.
The first is a par 3. You actually tee off from the peak of a mountain and drive the ball over a valley on to the
peak of another mountain. I've described it in detail on the aforementioned page, so I won't bore you but I will say
that it is truly thrilling and spectacular.
As you finish 16 and move on to the par 4 17th hole you discover that you now must hit your driver from another
mountain peak, over another valley, and into a fairway that is flanked by two mountains which are connected by a
lush green fairway. Both of these holes are memorable and fantastic.
The course has other great holes and offers differing challenges. Many of the greens are protected by well placed
bunkers. Sometimes you have to play downhill, other times you will be forced to attack greens that lie uphill. The
course is of high quality and is well maintained. Like I said if it wasn't for Cascata, Southshore would be even higher
on my list.
From the tips, Southshore measures 6,917 yards and is rated 72.8/133.
