Shadow Creek is an extremely upscale golf course located in Las Vegas, NV. It is arguably Tom Fazio’s masterpiece
and, perhaps, it is the ultimate demonstration of man’s power to create something from nothing. You see prior to
Fazio’s handiwork, Shadow Creek was totally flat and barren desert. However, he ended up creating a wonderfully
luxurious oasis featuring running streams, ponds, waterfalls, and lush green vegetation. To think that it came from
nothing but sand and rock is simply mind numbing.
The service is top-notch and the experience is quite something. For instance, as we were shown to the locker room
and assigned lockers I was given Phil Mickelson’s locker and my buddy had Michael Jordan’s. Pretty darn neat!!
As for the course itself, it is without question the best test of golf that I have seen come from the designer Tom
Fazio. You will be faced with long par 4’s, short par 4’s, holes that require fades, and holes that require draws. You
will see danger on the right and danger on the left. It has a wide degree of variety concerning strategy, options, and
shot requirements.
Furthermore, the set of greens present at Shadow Creek are the most interesting Fazio greens I have ever played.
You had big greens, small greens, greens with subtle contours, and greens with massive undulations. Definitely fun
and interesting greens.
Most people are familiar with the par 3 17th hole;
and the stunningly beautiful par 5 18th hole;
But to me the best hole on the entire course in the 15th. From the regular tees, it is 433 yards long and has a creek
running up the left side of the fairway. This creek eventually snakes back across the fairway just in front of the
green. Given that the green is shallow, to hit the green in regulation you must hit a mid to long iron over the creek
into that shallow green to hit it in regulation. It is quite a challenge, but certainly fun!
The course doesn’t have a slope rating, but the tees I played measure about 6,800 yards in length and were a mix of
the regular and back tees.
