Paiute Golf Resort (Wolf course)—Las Vegas, NV

During my recent trip to Vegas, we played Paiute (Wolf) on our last day and after Shadow Creek, Cascata, and
Bears Best. Having played these other courses, I didn’t have really high expectations for a public course the was
the cheapest of the bunch. However, was I wrong!!!!
Paiute (Wolf) is one of the most fun tracks I’ve played. Pete Dye put together a challenging course that is full of
twists and turns, wild bunkers, challenging bunkers, varied greens, all in a well routed and well put together course.
The course has many holes with rumpled and rolling fairways which has a kind of linksy feel to them. The course
has no housing so, you get the isolated feel that most like so much. And the holes have some “quirk” to them,
which make them fun to play.
The 8th is a really neat par 3 that measures 177 yards from the black tees. The green is partially hidden from the
tee box and makes the first time player a little hesitant to hit it to the left as you don’t know what lies beyond the hill.
However, to the right is a series of small bunkers protecting the golf ball from falling off the face of the earth into
what seems like “Death Valley”. But what is kind of cool is that if you play just over the hill, the ball will feed down
near the hole.
The 6th is a 500 yard par 5 with a long bunker running down and across the entire fairway. The green is protected
by a series of 3 bunkers covering the entire front of the green. So, to get there in two you’ve got to carry at least
two bunkers on your second shot and stop the ball dead on the green. It can be done, but it will be a challenge!!
And the 15th is a Dye signature island green. Although, I am not a huge fan of island greens…the hole is thrilling
and fun to play given the 30 mph winds that were present the day I was there!!
The course measures 7,009 yards from the black tees and is rated 73.5/134. It was designed by Pete Dye and is a
hidden gem that is a blast to play!!
