The Morris Course—Paris, KY
There is no question that The Morris Course is a very special place. The course is not a public course or even a
private club. In fact, it is the property of one man and his friends, family, and some business associates are
generally the only ones who get a chance to play it.
Additionally, the course is set up to play hickory golf with gutta percha golf balls exclusively. And the “old school”
rules of golf are employed while on this course, and those rules include the stymie.
The Morris Course is a nine hole, walking only golf course. Each hole has multiple tee boxes, so to get a full
eighteen in all you have to do is switch up some of the tee boxes and swing away. The course is the most natural
course I have ever played. A green here or there was raised or tinkered with, some of the tee boxes were
smoothed out, and some other minor construction tasks were performed. But not too much and due to this, this
place feels unadulterated and special.
In the photos below, you can see the natural beauty of the property…
The double greens that are employed from time to time, and the National Golf Links-esque approach shots…
A long par 3…
And the toughest approach shot on the course…
In my mind, this is golf as is should be; peaceful, serene, fun, challenging, and totally enjoyable.
The course was built by Keith Foster and Kevin Hargrave and it has no yardage markers or slope/course rating.
Just like I alluded to previously, this is pure golf with none of the modern silliness.
