Indian Wells (Celebrity)—Palm Springs, CA
-Ranked the 14th best public course in CA
The Indian Wells resort is located in Palm Springs, California. In addition to the courses being part of the resort,
they are also technically muni’s. Along those lines, the courses I played during this trip to the desert are some of
the best muni’s I have ever played.
The Celebrity Course was built by Clive Clark in 2006. It is one of the most visually stunning golf courses you will
ever play. For starters, the turfgrass on this course is extremely lush and green. Furthermore, the flowers,
streams and waterfalls that are littered throughout the course certainly make it very pretty. But perhaps the most
stunning part of the course's beauty is the dramatic views of the mountains, some of which are snow capped, which
surrounded and enclose the course. Adding up all of these elements makes for a very visually appealing golf
course.
The course itself isn’t overly demanding. You see it isn’t set up to challenge the top-tier golfers, rather it is meant
to be enjoyed by the casual resort golfer. And along these lines the course accomplishes its mission. The fairways
are sloped so that mildly off-line shots will be routed back to the fairways and/or the green. As I alluded to
previously, golfer looking to challenge their game won’t appreciate this while the casual golfer will.
You will have a mix of moderately long par 4’s and extremely short par 4’s. Water carries are present, but not over
used. And another interesting aspect of this course is the fact that there are only two par 3’s and two par 5’s.
Given this, the numerous par 4’s might get a little repetitive but not overly so.
From the blue tees, the course measures 6,632 and is rated 72.5/132.
