Sage Valley is an ultra-exclusive private golf club located in South Carolina very near Augusta, GA. In fact, rumor
has it that the owner wanted to be a member of Augusta National but never got the invite. So, he built his own
golfing oasis. I, for one, am glad he did as the course and the club are wonderful.
It was designed by Tom Fazio and is a walking only golf course where caddies accompany each golfer in the
group. Fazio’s work is known for its beauty and Sage Valley’s golf holes certainly live up to that billing. It seems
that one hole after another builds a foundation of beauty for the golfer to enjoy as he makes his way around the
course.
You will see a few forced water carries early on.
And then a few meandering creeks as the round progresses.
But without question your shot making abilities will be tested again and again, as you make your way around this
golfing wonderland.
One thing that struck me very early on in the round is just how similar this course is to Shadow Creek, Fazio’s most
widely known masterpiece. The shaping, the bunkering, and the routing all seemed very similar. I’d say Sage
Valley in the South’s private version of Fazio’s ultimate work.
