Haig Point---Daufuskie Island, SC

Haig Point is a “must play” in my book.  Simply getting there is a treat and a fun experience.  You catch a ferry on
Hilton Head Island and take a 40 minute cruise to the island.  And upon arriving on that island a mood is set that is
laid back island living at its finest.

The resort/town/neighborhood is pure class and the golf course has tremendous potential.  Well, perhaps I should
say the golf courses.  You see, they’ve integrated a unique 20 hole routing to make two golf courses, The Haig and
The Calibogue.  These extra holes are centered around the par 3’s and they have an “A” and a “B” on a few of the
par 3’s.  For instance, here is 8A…

Which is the 8th hole on The Haig course.

And here is the 8th hole on The Calibogue course.

The Calibogue is the more difficult of the courses, which is mainly a factor of forced marsh carries on these few par
3’s.

I say the course has potential because the first 5 holes have WAY to many trees in weird places.  Here is a shot of
two palms trees guarding a bunker complex in the middle of the fairway on the 2nd hole.

Now,   this is the most mild of the overly treed first few holes.  And at times, make no mistake about it, the trees get
out of hand and ridiculous.  But after that the course(s) get really good with the par 3’s being the highlight.

Both courses were designed by Rees Jones.
