Commonground Golf Course--Denver, CO

Commonground is a very affordable, public golf course located in Denver, Colorado.  It owned by the Colorado Golf
Association and was designed by Tom Doak.  The mission of the golf course is:

To provide everyone in the state with a first-class environment in which to comfortably learn, enjoy and support this
amazing game and all that it offers.

And let me say, they achieve their mission in spades.  The greens fees top out at $50 and locals are offered
discounts.  They have an optional caddy program, to help foster interest in the game from the younger generations.
And the golf course itself, just might be the perfect layout for this type of affordable, fun, public golf course.

However, understand this...I didn't play the course.  I simply walked all the holes and examined them in detail.
However, my key take aways from this experience are as follows:

The lush blue grass fairways give the average public golfer the "look" they want from a golf course, while maintaining
excellent playability.

The bunkers are well placed and very strategic, but the bulk of them are not overly penal.  For a public course, I find
this ideal as it gives interest to the game while promoting a good pace of play.

The greens are very interesting with the angles of attack and internal contours, but they are not over-the-top.  Again,
good for a public course.

And the fairways are WIDE.  I mean WIDE!!!  This is ideal for allowing multiple ways to play the hole, that is strategy.
And it allows for the higher handicap to mis-hit a few shots, but still be in a playable situation.

Bottom line, this course is a winner.  Every city in America needs at least one course like this.
