Champions Retreat---Evans, GA

Rankings as of 7/11/2010---
8th best course in GA (Golf Digest)

Champions Retreat is a great place and a great concept.  For starters, it has the feel of a golfing retreat (hence
the name).  But it does have a neighborhood attached to it, at least that is what I hear but I don’t think I saw more
than a scattered house here or there.   Regardless, there are first class cottages for visitors/national members to
stay in while on the property and an amazing clubhouse, bar, dining room, lounge for residents and guests to
hang out in.  Like I mentioned, the feel is of a first class golf retreat and it is ideally suited for what I like when I just
want to get away from everything and play golf.  I think the residents of the neighborhood itself must feel like they
are on a permanent golfing vacation and I am VERY jealous!!

As for the golf course, there are 3 nine hole courses.  One designed by Jack Nicklaus, one by Arnold Palmer, and
one by Gary Player.  Hence the name, Champions Retreat as all three are big time golfing major champions.
Another thing I really like about the club is that each of the three courses are on distinctive pieces of property
while maintaining a cohesive feel to them.

The Nicklaus course (The Bluff) is without question the most challenging.  It has the best greens and is located on
the most severe of the rolling terrain.

The Palmer course (The Island) is the most scenic, but it certainly is challenging as well.  The big bunkers and the
focus on the aerial game is what brings the challenge to the table on this nine.

The Player course (The Creek) is the one I found to be the most enjoyable.  On this course, you had a nice mix of
challenge, beauty, and interesting greens.  Mr. Player works in challenging holes, like this beast of an opening
par 4 which measure 513 from the tips and has this forced carry on your approach.

He also works in a Redan style par 3.

And a crazy challenging/beautiful par 5.

If you have a chance to visit the property, play the course, and hang out overnight.  You must do it.  The vibe at
Champions Retreat is that good!!
