#16 at Askernish

Askernish is a unique golf course; it is located in a very remote area in Scotland, it is not maintained like a modern
day country club course, and its history dates back to the legendary Old Tom Morris' day.  Many of the holes are
amazingly good at Askernish, including the 16th hole (Old Tom's Pulpit).  The hole is a 359 yard par 4 that plays
down into a dune valley with a severely undulating fairway.  The approach goes up and over Old Tom's Pulpit, which
completely blocks the view of the green.  And the green is surrounded by dunes on all 4 sides.  The hole is
spectacularly unique.  A true must see.  The picture below shows the approach shot with the Pulpit mound off to the
right center of the fairway.

This par 4 plays 434 from the silver tees and the tee box is elevated over the fairway.  In stark contrast to many Ross
holes, there are no bunkers on this hole.  Instead, you have to deal with a meandering stream that cuts across the
hole out about 200 yards and then turns up and runs the entire right side of the hole.  The approach to the green
requires an uphill shot to a bear of a green.  The green sits on a half self that slopes so much that most putts from
below or beside the hole break very hard.  However, if you are above the hole you will be faced with the potential to
roll down the hill and thirty yards back into the fairway.  Ugh!

#17 at Muirfield

This is a shorter par 5 (506 yards) with a slight dogleg left to it.  The kicker on this hole is the nest of centerline
bunkers that are well-hidden and await the unsuspecting golfer on their 2nd shot.  In all there are 4 bunkers in this
nest and not all 4 are visible from every spot on the hole.  Beware as you strike your second shot or you may fall prey
to them.  Regardless of whether you land in them, the Dell-like green can also cause you some issues are you attack
the pin!
